In 2010 the CMA held its first Christmas appeal to raise money for our Cardiomyopathy in Children Information Day. The appeal raised £4,134 for the day and the cost of putting on the event was £3,342.
Over 50 parents and children attended the event, held at the Mayfair Conference Centre in London, on Saturday, March 12th, 2011.
Leading experts in cardiomyopathy from the Heart Hospital in London and the paediatric cardiomyopathy team at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London talked about the diagnosis and management of dilated, hypertrophic and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy in children, the genetics of the conditions, other issues such as advising schools, and helping children to live successfully with cardiomyopathy. A parent also spoke about the experience of having a son diagnosed with the condition and the issues she faced bringing him up. Many question and answer sessions were also included.
We asked parents for feedback to help us learn more about what they want from future events. Comments included "it was a very informative and enjoyable day," "we came away feeling very much more informed," "everyone was very friendly and welcoming," and "being able to go up to the doctors during the coffee break and ask individual questions was brilliant."
There were also some suggestions from the feedback forms about how we could improve the day and we will be looking at incorporating these ideas for next time.
Thank for supporting 2010's Christmas appeal.
