Golfers at an Essex golf club have raised more than £10,000 for the CMA in memory of local student Mike Polden.
The money was raised mostly at a golf day at Warley Park Golf Club in Brentwood.
Mike died suddenly and unexpectedly aged 20 from the heart muscle disease cardiomyopathy in 2001. So when his mum Christine became the 2009 ladies captain at the club she chose the CMA as her charity of the year. The men’s 2009 captain Sandy McNay decided to do the same.
The captains’ golf day in July, a donation from a member and other gifts raised a total of £10,235 for the CMA.
Both captains presented the cheque to CMA chief executive Robert Hall.
He said: “We are very grateful Christine and Sandy for choosing our charity as the beneficiary. We would like to thank everyone at the golf club who has supported us so generously.”
