Irish themed dinner dance held in Leeds

Around 150 people attended a dinner dance in Leeds on Saturday (November 29th) held in the support of the CMA.

The evening, entitled Shamrock Dreams, was held at the Leeds Irish Centre.

The evening was organised by Candice Syron and Ashleigh Begley (pictured) for the CMA’s Daniel Yorath Appeal Fund.  Daniel, whose sister is TV presenter Gabby Logan, died suddenly, aged 15, from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy playing football in his garden in 1992.

Also helping to set up the evening was the Irish Centre’s manager Tommy McLoughlin, whose son Damian died of the same condition 15 years ago. Tommy raised a lot of money for the CMA at the time and was instrumental in setting up the CMA website.  Members of the Wakefield Wildcats Rugby League squad also attended.

For the auction, Leeds United Football Club and Leeds Rhinos both provided a signed shirt and Wakefield Wildcats donated a shirt and poster. An England World Cup football shirt, signed by Aaron Lennon, was also up for grabs.

Entertainment included Irish dancers, singer Helen Kelly, and an Irish folk band.Organisers hope the evening will have raised £3,500.

Ashleigh’s sister Michaela Begley and her friends Ruth Innes and John Walker', Daniel Yorath’s cousin, ran the New York marathon in November for the appeal fund.

Our thanks go to Ashleigh and Candice for their great work in organising the evening.
