CMA member Mila Hurst (pictured above) is fire walking for the CMA later this month and urging others to join her.

Mila, from Gloucestershire, will walk barefoot across five metres of red-hot embers in memory of her husband Reg, who died from problems related to cardiomyopathy.

Mila, who recently retired, is taking part in the challenge on Friday, September 25th, 7pm at Newlands, Southam, Cheltenham and she hopes many other supporters will follow her example.

She said: “I haven’t done any daredevil things before but decided that now I have reached OAP status I want to take on some challenges. Life is too short and needs to be lived to the full every day. I am really passionate that people need to become more aware of cardiomyopathy and I want to raise as much money as I can to support the charity. It won’t bring my husband back, but I’m sure that increased awareness and funds can help improve or lengthen the lives of other people with the disease.”

After one hour of motivational training, Mila will join other supporters in tackling the embers that will reach temperatures of 800 degrees C.

The fire walk is being run by specialist fire walking company Survivorbility, which has run similar events all over the world.

Anyone interested in fire walking with Mila to support the Cardiomyopathy Association should call the charity on 01494 791224, email Celia Blakeway-Phillips

There is a deposit of £30 and every firewalker is asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.  Entrants should register before Monday, September 14th, 2009.
