March for Mitch

March for Mitch

Nine dedicated Stevenage supporters have raised nearly £7,000 for the CMA in memory of former player Mitchell Cole. The group walked more than 60 miles over three days from Oxford Football Club to Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium for the club’s first home game of the new season.

They wore shirts from the clubs that Mitchell played for along with his squad number. Mitchell, a Stevenage player from 2007 to 2010 and an ambassador for the CMA, died last year aged 27 from cardiomyopathy. The walkers, pictured from the left, were Terry Peacock, Neil Trebble, Craig Atkinson, Keiran Pepper, Liam Govey, Lucy Cox, Joshua Alby Devereux, Simon Leon, Steve Elkins (support driver) and Adam Elkins.
Despite starting out on the hottest day of the year and getting numerous blisters, the group all reached Stevenage in time for the match.

Adam said: “The experience was one we will never forget. It was full of happiness, sadness for Mitchell, smiles and the occasional frown. But we all pulled and the feeling at the end made it well worth it. It was a pleasure to support the charity and we're already looking ahead to our next adventure.”

Craig said: “You’re all a great bunch who i'd love to keep in contact with. Your support and determination got us all through.  I will always remember what we did – it’s been a true pleasure.”

The CMA’s events fundraiser Leanne Langdon said: “The team showed amazing determination to keep going and we’re really grateful for everything they have done.”
