Iris grower Clare Kneen is looking for names for her new hybrid iris
Name an iris for the CMA

CMA fundraiser Clare Keen (pictured) has grown a new hybrid iris and is offering supporters the chance to officially name it.

You can make as many suitable suggestions as you like and Clare will choose what she thinks is most appropriate.

She said: "An iris can be named anything other than iris or a previously used iris name. I will have to check with a special registrar that the name has not been used before.

"Most irises are given people's names but as I am also going to sell the iris to raise funds for the CMA, I would like it to have a name that will mean something to everyone who buys it."

Clare, who has a commercial nursery that grows irises, has supported the CMA since her brother died from the heart condition more than 20 years ago.

She has already held special iris days to raise money but said: "I have been thinking of other ways to make money for this very good cause."

After three years of training, Clare has been appointed a British Iris Society (BSI) judge. She said that she had used BSI seed for the first time and one plant in particular had been outstanding.

This is the iris (pictured above) she is seeking a name for.  If your suggestion is chosen, you will get a piece of the plant, to be sent out in September. To take part, email your suggestions to the CMA's Celia Blakeway-Phillips by the end of March. The iris will be formally named later this year.
