The CMA has appointed a nurse specialist based at its main office in Chesham to extend the support it offers to families affected by cardiomyopathy.
Gill Rogers, who has become the CMA’s cardiomyopathy support nurse, will provide direct support and information to families and will be responsible for managing the CMA’s support services.
Gill, an experienced nurse and nurse lecturer, will play a key part in the charity’s information days and medical conferences and help to ensure cardiac clinics and GP surgeries have CMA information available to cardiomyopathy patients.
Her role will include supporting the continued growth of the CMA’s network of support groups and key contacts. She will also oversee the CMA’s website message board and will provide articles and information for CMA News, the charity’s website and general, medical and nursing media.
Gill, a mother of two from Buckinghamshire, completed her nurse training in Edinburgh 20 years ago. She then worked as a staff nurse in intensive care and coronary care at University College Hospital London and in intensive care and cardiothoracic surgery at St Bart’s Hospital, also in London. For two years she was a nurse lecturer at the University of Dundee’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, teaching the cardiovascular system and associated conditions.
Gill said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in coronary care and cardiothoracic surgery. I am delighted that in my new post I will have the opportunity to provide information and support which is tailored to the specific needs of individual patients and their families.”
CMA chief executive Robert Hall said: “We are delighted to welcome Gill to the CMA team. Her appointment is designed to enhance the level of support and information we offer to families affected by cardiomyopathy.”
