The CMA holds regular information days for patients and their families around the UK so they can find out more about cardiomyopathy and meet others who are affected.
Speakers include top cardiomyopathy specialists from the Heart Hospital in London. The programme for 2009 has yet to be announced.
The remaining 2008 programme is:
Cardiomyopathy in children meeting: Saturday, November 29th, 9.30am to 5pm, Holiday Inn Regents Park, Carburton, Street, London. The event is for parents of affected youngsters and older children. Speakers will include Professor William McKenna, professor of cardiology at the Heart Hospital in London, and Dr Mike Burch, lead transplant consultant and consultant cardiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
Dr Burch will start the day with an overview of paediatric cardiomyopathy and Professor McKenna will discuss current research. Cardiologists Dr Maite Tome and Dr Antonis Pantazis will talk about hypertrophic and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy in children, while Dr Burch and Professor McKenna will give presentations on children’s dilated cardiomyopathy.
Other topics for discussion include genetics, diet, exercise, psychological issues and drugs.
