Southend friends cycle across France
Southend-on-Sea friends Freddie Smith and Guy Binns are cycling over 700 miles to the South of France in July in support of Freddie’s mother who has the heart muscle disease cardiomyopathy.
Freddie, a 19-year-old law student, from Bridgwater Drive, Westcliff on Sea, and Guy, a 23-year-old model from The Crossways, Chalkwell, are planning to complete the challenge in seven to 10 days, having to cycle a minimum of 80 miles (120kms) a day. They are hoping to raise £3,000 for the Cardiomyopathy Association.
Freddie's mother Jennifer, who is in her early forties and also from Bridgwater Drive, has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Freddie said: “Guy and I decided a 1200km ride would give us a major challenge to overcome and would be a good way of raising money for an admirable cause.
“We will be leaving on July 9th, getting to Calais by ferry and from there cycling to Nîmes, a distance of 1000kms. Then I am cycling to the Mediterranean coast, finishing at Bormes-les-Mimosas, while Guy is going to Perpignan, both another 200kms. I will be staying in the area for another three weeks over the summer and hopefully recover from the long cycle. Guy has family in Perpignan and will be staying with them.”
