Tunbridge Wells Harriers have raised over £8,000 for the CMA from the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon.

Last night (Wednesday, June 3rd) the running club presented the charity with a cheque for £7,781.  Another £370 was collected by charity supporters at the event in February.

Race organiser Sarah Russell and Paul Roome, a harrier and CMA member, handed the cheque to CMA chief executive Robert Hall at a club meeting at the Nevill Cricket Ground in Tunbridge Wells.

Robert said: “We are very grateful to the harriers for raising such a large sum for us.  The half marathon was very well organised and it has been a real pleasure to work alongside the organising team.  We are particularly grateful to Sarah for all her hard work and for Paul for putting us forward as a beneficiary.”

Around 1,600 runners took part in this year’s race, which was started by TV Gladiator Cyclone, who is also a CMA supporter (pictured right with runners Tom and Beth Leach).  It was the first time the harriers had supported the CMA, but organisers have pledged to support the charity again in 2010.

In recognition of the hard work of the race team, the run received the prestigious Most Improved Event Award at the 2009 Runners World 'Heroes of Running' Awards.
