Stevenage Football Club supporters’ team is organising a football tournament early next month in memory of Mitchell Cole.
Mitchell, who played for Stevenage between 2007 and 2010, died in December from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The Mitchell Cole Memorial Tournament will take place at the home of Ware FC at Wodson Park, Wadesmill Rd, Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 0UQ on Saturday, May 4th.
The tournament will support Ben Cole, Mitchell’s brother, in his climb up Mt Kilimanjaro for the Cardiomyopathy Association.
Mitchell, who was forced to retire from professional football in 2011, became an ambassador for the Cardiomyopathy Association, raising awareness of the condition and the charity in the media.
The match will be free to watch but there will be collection buckets around the ground, with all the money raised going towards Ben's charity trek.
The first match will start at 10am and the event will end around 4pm. Taking part will be the Stevenage supporters team, affectionately known as Badgers FC, as well as fans’ teams from Cambridge, Barnet, London Carlisle and AFC Wimbledon. There will also be a Ben Cole XI, which will consist of Ben and Mitchell’s family and friends.
The tournament will have a league format with the top team being the winners of a Mitchell Cole Memorial Trophy. All are welcome to come and watch. Anyone who can help should contact Keith Bell
There will be a bar and tea bar open throughout the day.
Stevenage Football Club are also holding a match in Mitchell's memory later that week.
