Education
To inform and educate health professionals caring for people with cardiomyopathy, the CMA organises an annual programme of national conferences for doctors and nurses. These events attract up to 180 delegates from the UK and Europe and provide up-to-date information on the diagnosis and management of the different types of cardiomyopathy.
Supporting clinical care As well as funding cardiomyopathy nurse specialists in London, Glasgow and Belfast, the CMA plans to fund more nurse posts in the coming years. We also fund a consultant cardiologist at The Heart Hospital in London. These are major contributions to support the care of people with cardiomyopathy. Dr Maite Tome - The CMA's consultant cardiologist at the Heart Hospital We have also developed a telemedicine service, which allows cardiomyopathy experts at the Heart Hospital in London to discuss patient cases with doctors in the regions "face-to face" via video conferencing technology. This enables patients to get access to the best medical care without having to trouble to London, often when they are not feeling well, and spreads expertise to other hospitals round the country. Working with Government The CMA is one of the charities that campaigned for and subsequently contributed to the development of the National Service Framework (NSF) Chapter on ‘Arrhythmia and Sudden Death’ .This is a major initiative that aims to improve services for cardiomyopathy patients in the UK. The CMA now serves on the Department of Health’s NSF Implementation Board and two working groups focussing on pathology and coroners' services, and sudden cardiac death and inherited cardiac conditions. The CMA will campaign continuously for the implementation of the quality requirements announced in this important document. The CMA is constantly working to help those affected by cardiomyopathy
