Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It affects people of all ages and is mostly inherited. It is not curable but can usually be treated successfully, with most of those affected going on to lead a long and full life.
There are several different types of cardiomyopathy. The CMA produces free booklets on each of the three main types of cardiomyopathy - hypertrophic, dilated and arrhythmogenic right ventricular - and information on these types can be found below (just click on the relevant image). On this website, you can also find information about restrictive cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (also see links below). There are also pages about living with cardiomyopathy, medical articles, patient stories and presentations by cardiomyopathy experts.
The Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA) is a charity that provides information and support to affected families.
Our services include a team of cardiomyopathy support nurses, information days around the country, support groups and a network of affected volunteers who provide support to others. If you have any questions we will be happy to help. You can email us or call freephone number (UK) 0800 018 1024.
The CMA is a UK charity that receives no government funding. It costs us £480,000 each year to provide our services and we need your support to help us continue providing these free services to help families affected by cardiomyopathy.
