Supporters to talk about living with cardiomyopathy

3rd June 2016

Two Cardiomyopathy UK supporters are to speak on living with cardiomyopathy at one of the country’s biggest heart disease conferences for medical staff.

Gilbert Wheeler (below left), who has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and Bill Bartholomew, (below right) who has dilated cardiomyopathy, are speaking at the British Cardiovascular Society’s conference in Manchester next week.

The annual conference, at Manchester Central Convention Complex in Windmill Street, attracts cardiologists and heart nurses from all over the UK and beyond. It is held over three days, starting on Monday 6 June, and Bill and Gilbert will be speaking on Wednesday, 8 June.

Gilbert, who runs our Wiltshire Cardiomyopathy Support Group and works with many health organisations to help improve heart care, said: “It’s a real honour to be asked to speak at such a prestigious event and I hope we can raise awareness of these conditions and the work of Cardiomyopathy UK."

Bill, an independent financial adviser, has helped some people with cardiomyopathy get life insurance.

The charity will also have a stand at the event, manned by staff and supporters, showing the work we do and the literature we provide for patients and their families.
