9th June 2016

Long time supporter Gilbert Wheeler has won a special award for working with health organisations to promote cardiomyopathy patient involvement and empowerment.

Gilbert, who has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and has run our Wiltshire Cardiomyopathy Support Group, was given the award at a medical conference in Manchester yesterday. He accepted it for his work with Cardiomyopathy UK.

Gilbert has spent many years working with health organisations to raise awareness of cardiomyopathy and improve care of patients and their families.

He also spoke about living with cardiomyopathy at the three-day British Cardiovascular Society conference this week.

Gilbert was presented with a trophy and £300 bursary for patient and clinician partnership in memory of David Geldard MBE, a former president of the UK Cardiovascular Care Partnership (CCP).

He was handed the award by Dr Jane Bridgewater, the founding trustee and clinical lead of the CCP.
