Ugo Ehiogu

24th April 2017

There has been much speculation about the sad death of Ugo Ehiogu - Tottenham Hotspur’s under-23 coach and former England and Aston Villa defender, who passed away last week from cardiac arrest at the age of 44. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.

Joel Rose, Chief Executive of Cardiomyopathy UK commented:

“Whilst the underlying cause of Ugo Ehiogu’s cardiac arrest remains undisclosed, when a seemingly fit and healthy person experiences a cardiac arrest, cardiomyopathy is often suspected. Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that can stop the heart from pumping effectively. It affects around 160,000 people and is often hereditary. Because some people with cardiomyopathy can have no prior symptoms it is really important that they let their doctor know if there is any history of heart disease or unexplained death in their family.”
