Lucy runs the London Marathon for her dad

23rd April 2018

Lucy Ring, 20, from Old Catton was devastated when her dad Mark passed away in 2016 with dilated cardiomyopathy.

Mark was just 49 when he died in 2016, from the condition which he never even knew he had. A keen runner Mark had completed 11 marathons previously and gave his daughter Lucy the running bug. It was their goal to finish a marathon together but unfortunately they were not able to achieve this dream.

Lucy was a spectator as Mark was running a race, but he didn’t finish at the time the family were expecting him to finish; eventually completing the race with someone helping him cross the finish line. Sadly when he got home from the race Mark went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics weren't able to save him and they discovered he had passed away from the condition.

Lucy bravely took on the 26.2 mile London Marathon yesterday in her dad's memory, and has so far raised over £3,000 for us. You can still donate to her cause here:
