2018 was a great year for the charity and I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to achieve, thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers and staff says Cardiomyopathy UK Chief Executive, Joel Rose.

Thanks to our donors and fundraisers, the charity’s income grew considerably last year and this means that we can build on the success of 2018 and be even more ambitious about what we want to achieve this year.

Peer support

Plans for 2019 include a drive to continue increasing the availability of peer support. We want to open up even more support groups where they are needed and put more volunteers in cardiomyopathy clinics across the UK.

We also want to increase the number of our clinical education days and start to offer online training for more healthcare professionals.

In 2019, we are also going to be talking more about myocarditis so more people will know the warning signs of this condition and more doctors will be able to spot it.

As people with myocarditis can go on to develop cardiomyopathy, we believe it is really important that we cover this issue.

We have already started to plan for a national awareness campaign later this year, but we know that given myocarditis can affect anyone, at any age, and can happen in people with no history of illness, it is going to be a big challenge to ensure that our message gets out to a wide audience.

30th Anniversary edition of My Life

2019 marks our 30th Anniversary as a charity, and we will be unveiling a special 30th Anniversary edition of My Life which will provide a look back over the past 30 years and how we have developed as a charity. This edition will also be celebrating the wonderful achievements of our supporters, and how much the Cardiomyopathy UK community has grown.

Also look out for our impact report highlights which will be included in our April edition of My Life.
