We’re very pleased to share that Katharine McIntosh has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer.
As many members of our community will know, Katharine has been with the charity for three years as Director of Research & External Affairs, and has been acting as Interim CEO since January. Following a competitive recruitment process, we’re excited to welcome her to the role on a permanent basis.
In Katharine’s time with the charity, she has developed a deep understanding of – and care for – the cardiomyopathy community. Her work has brought her close to the issues that matter most to people affected by the condition.
Chair of Trustees Stephen Kirkham says: “I’m delighted that Katharine has been appointed to lead our staff team. Her longstanding charity background and proven passion for the cardiomyopathy community will ensure stability for the charity going forward, while we continue to deliver our important work.”
A health policy professional with extensive experience in the charity sector, Katharine has held roles at patient organisations such as The Neurological Alliance, MS Society and Epilepsy Society, as well as working alongside clinicians at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She has also served in a voluntary capacity on the Board of Trustees for Mind in Harrow, including as Chair for three years.
This experience, combined with the specialist knowledge she has developed here at Cardiomyopathy UK, make her well-placed to lead the charity forward.
Katharine has shared her excitement about working more closely with our whole community going forwards – from our staff team to the volunteers who give their time and energy to help us support everyone who needs us.
We look forward to continuing to deliver our five year strategy under Katharine’s leadership: to provide support, raise awareness, improve care and treatment, and shape research for everyone affected by cardiomyopathy. It’s a chapter of our story as a charity that wouldn’t be possible without the commitment of our supporters – thank you for continuing to champion our work.
