International Nurses Day 2026: Updates from our cardiomyopathy nurse team

News 12 May 2026

It's International Nurses Day, and the theme this year is Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

Here at Cardiomyopathy UK, we’re taking this opportunity to bring you the latest updates from our Specialist Nurse team – and to recognise the huge contribution they make. From providing information and advice to offering emotional support, they’re there every week so that no one has to face cardiomyopathy alone.

Network developments

Our cardiomyopathy nurse team are members of the British Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) nursing network, which is now affiliated with the British Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions Society (BICCS).

The BICCS represents healthcare professionals who support patients with a range of genetic conditions mainly affecting the heart – including cardiomyopathy. It provides its members with specialist education, research and resources with the aim of improving access to high-quality care for patients with inherited cardiovascular conditions.

We’re delighted that the nursing network is helping to foster a health and social care community that is better able to serve people affected by cardiomyopathy.

Our new genetic advice service

Earlier this year, we launched a new service to provide reassurance and expert guidance specifically on the genetic aspects of cardiomyopathy.

It’s becoming an increasingly important topic as more people are referred for genetic testing. It’s common to have questions about the testing process, inherited risk and what the next steps should be.

Our nurses can help you make sense of where you are in your journey and support you to make informed choices that feel right for you and your family.

Expert help when you need it

The Cardiomyopathy UK nurse team has long been at the heart of the support we offer. They provide advice and support to hundreds of people each year, covering everything from symptoms and diagnosis through to treatment options and managing day-to-day life with cardiomyopathy.

And it’s not just for people with a diagnosis – if you’re worried you might have cardiomyopathy, or you’re the friend, family member or carer of somebody who does, it’s for you too.

Whatever your worries about cardiomyopathy, you don’t have to work them out by yourself. Call 0800 018 1024 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm) to speak to one of our nurses, or drop them an email at supportnurse@cardiomyopathy.org.
