Electric day, big impact: Team Cardio smashes £13,000 at the GNR

Fundraising stories 14 November 2025

The atmosphere at this year’s Great North Run was nothing short of electric, and our incredible team of 13 runners truly did us proud. Together, they have raised an outstanding £13,000 in support of Cardiomyopathy UK’s work, an incredible achievement that will make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cardiomyopathy.

We are so grateful for their dedication. After months of training and preparation, every runner wore our vest with pride, raising funds and awareness for Cardiomyopathy UK.

For some, the Great North Run is a familiar challenge; for others, it was their very first half-marathon. Among our runners this year was David, who has just completed his 24th Great North Run for Cardiomyopathy UK. His commitment to our cause is truly inspirational:

“This year was my 24th consecutive run for Cardiomyopathy UK, with every year ‘being my last’! I’m trying to raise vital funds for this charity, which exists solely from fundraising. Cardiomyopathy UK helped save the life of my wife’s twin brother, who suffers from the condition, so it’s a charity that means a lot to me and my family.”

Paul and Beki shared their experience:

“We completed the Great North Run for cardiomyopathy with wider family members after our daughter was diagnosed with the condition at only seventeen years old.  It was a very emotional day but we are very proud to have completed the run and more importantly to raise awareness and funds for a very important cause.  We would like to thank the team at Cardiomyopathy UK for their help and support before, during and after the event.”

Another of our amazing runners, Matt, summed up the spirit of the day perfectly:

“It really was a fantastic day, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of Team Cardio and contribute to such an important cause. The support and organisation made the whole experience even more special.”

He also added a reflection we know many of our runners would agree with:

“Crossing the finish line at the Great North Run wasn’t just about the miles – it was about being part of something bigger, knowing that every step was helping to make a difference. I couldn’t be prouder to support Cardiomyopathy UK.”

Our runners really capture what the Great North Run is all about: community, determination, and compassion, and Team Cardio truly shone throughout the day.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who ran, donated, cheered, or supported.

And if you’re feeling inspired - why not join us next year? Applications for the 2026 Great North Run are now open, and we would love for you to be part of Team Cardio. Run with us, raise vital funds, and help make a difference for thousands of people living with cardiomyopathy across the UK.
