In October, we brought the Cardiomyopathy UK community together in the heart of Yorkshire for a special regional conference in Leeds, a day filled with learning, connection, and practical support for anyone affected by cardiomyopathy.
Our regional conferences are part of the charity’s Thriving Together approach, designed to reach more people where they are and make sure nobody feels alone in managing their condition. The Leeds event, held on Saturday 11th October, welcomed patients, family members, and healthcare professionals from across the region for a day of expert talks, friendly discussion, and peer connection.
With more than 80 tickets booked, it was one of our most popular regional gatherings to date. Attendees heard from our specialist nurses, medical experts, and experienced volunteers, with plenty of opportunities to share experiences and ask questions.
The conference covered a wide range of topics, from the latest developments in cardiomyopathy research and treatment to managing symptoms, improving well-being, and navigating genetic testing. It was an opportunity for people to meet others who truly understand what it’s like to live with cardiomyopathy, and to leave feeling more informed, supported, and hopeful.
“Our regional conferences are about more than information, they’re about connection,” says Jayne, our Nurse Services Manager. “People often tell us that meeting others with the same condition for the first time is life-changing. It helps them feel seen and understood.”
These regional events are also a great way for local healthcare professionals to learn more about the experiences of people living with cardiomyopathy. By sharing knowledge in both directions, from patients to professionals, and professionals to patients, we help improve understanding and encourage joined-up care across the UK.
By holding regional conferences like Leeds, we’re making sure Cardiomyopathy UK remains rooted in the experiences of the people we are here to support. Each event helps us listen, learn, and shape our services around what really matters to our community.
